I am trying to establish a definitive collation for the first edition of
Martin Dominique Fertel's La Science pratique de l'imprimerie, pub. by M.D.
Fertel, Saint Omer, 1723.
Our copy is 4to: *^2 **-****^4 A-PP^4 (H3 & Cc4 cancellans) & 4 engraved
plates and 2 tables.
Birrell & Garnett make mention of a frontis. & plate engraved by Gravelot,
not in this copy, tho' it seems likely that this must have been a later
addition since this would be extremely early for Gravelot.
Barber, French Letterpress Printing states 6 plates.
Newberry copy has 8 (plates).
Can anyone throw light on these apparent discrepancies? Thank you in advance.
