I posted a message concerning this person a while ago, but elicited no
response. My colleague is still after information.
Could someone please advise me where to refer him e.g. to a research
institution in Wisconsin or Pennsylvania?

I am posting this on behalf of a colleague who does not have access to
Ex-Libris.
He is looking for any papers etc. relating to the Hon. Samuel D.
Hastings. Hastings was born in Massachusetts 24 July 1816, and was
one of the founders of the Liberal Party in Pennsylvania.
In 1846 he moved to Wisconsin. Two years later he was elected a
member of the state legislature.
He was the Grand Worthy of Wisconsin in the Good Templars.
In 1875 he visited Australia and New Zealand to promote the
temperance cause.
My colleague is particularly interested in any diaries, reports, or
correspondence relating to this visit. His main interest is in the
Tasmanian leg of Hastings' tour.
Please reply direct to me. My e-mail address is:-

Thank you,
Richard Overell.
