Talking with a friend of mine about the recent discussion on ExLibris about
donations to libraries, he directed me to a one-page short story by Louis
Auchincloss entitled "Do You Know This Man?" and published in "Narcissa and
Other Fables" (1983, I believe). Although it concerns the disposition of an
art collection, its view of the activities and motivations of museums might
be, unfairly of course, applied by the cynical to libraries as well.
Auchincloss does make his point rather well in one page. I'd be interested
in others' opinions.
