I sent the following directly to Richard Saunders, but thought
perhaps others might find it of use. If not, hit that delete!
The best source to look in is Maurice Annenberg's Type
Foundries of America and their Catalogs, published 1975. There were
only 500 copies printed, so it might not be too easy to locate a copy
nearby. Anyway, the top five libraries for type specimen books and
their holdings are: Columbia University, 445; Newberry Library, 134;
California Historical Society (Kemble Collections), 122; Harvard
University, 115; and the Huntington Library, 80. As no. 3, we do have
a number of type specimen books from that period and region. Please
let me know what your needs are and I will be glad to help.
