This ASIS meeting offers plenary sessions, continuing education
programs, product demonstrations, technical sessions, and tours,
that will focus on maneuvering through the changes wrought by
recent developments in information technology. The program
includes many offerings of potential interest to EXLIBRIS readers.
Professional Development Programs include:
Introduction to Image Databases. Howard Besser will explore
issues in design, management and creation of image
databases.
Thesaurus Construction and Maintenance. C. David Batty offers
this fundamental course in the principles and practices
for construction and maintenance of index languages,
especially thesauri.
Panel Discussions include:
Electronic Texts in the Humanities: Markup and Access
Techniques. Elli Mylona, Elaine Brennan, Michael Neuman
et al. explore and demonstrate high-quality electronic
text projects and issues in preparing them for research.
Preserving Visual Images and Electronic Access: Pilot
Project. Roland Brown, Tom Hickerson and John Waiblinger
report on the Eastman Kodak/Commission on Preservation
and Access/Cornell U./U.Southern California CD storage
project.
