Re: recent ruling on access to theses

At The University of Arizona, Master's and Doctoral students are required
to submit two copies of each thesis or dissertation to the library.

Doctoral candidates are additionally required to have their dissertations
filmed by UMI and made readily available to scholars.

Do other schools have, as part of the graduation requirements, a stipulation
that the thesis or dissertation be made available to the library for patron
use? Since our students agree to this policy as a condition of graduation,
I do not anticipate any problem here at Arizona, regardless of the
interpretation of the ruling.

I also suspect that, as Peter said, when the dust settles we will find
that the ruling is no problem at all.
