A Century of Library Publications Exhibition

Phillip Bevis is in the process of bringing his bookstore into email, but
in the interim, he has asked me again to post this update on A Century of
Library Publications exhibition. --David Zeidberg, UCLA

"We are coming down to the end of the nomination period for this traveling
exhibition of library publications. For those of you who have not yet nomi-
nated, now is the time -- the deadline is 1 September 1993. For those of
you who have sent in nominations, thanks!

"There is no cost to nominate, nor are you required to send a copy of the
books; all you need do is mail or fax the title(s) you think merit the jury's
consideration to the address below, together with your comments about the
importance of the publication(s). Edited and credited (I might add) versions
of your comments will be used in the catalogue as annotations where appropriate

"This retrospective exhibition of 100 library publications representative of
excellence, published during the years 1893-1993 in the United States and
Canada, will tour selected institutions in the United States and Canada from
1994 to 1996.

"Emphasis will be on publications which successfully integrate text and design,
and which serve, directly or indirectly, to reinforce public awareness of the
collections and programs of the publishing institution.

"The gala opening of the exhibition will be held in Los Angeles at the recently
expanded Gallery in the Bookstore, Arundel Antiquarian Books, in February,
1994, to coincide with ALA Mid-Winter. A catalogue of this exhibition will
be published. The catalogue will be co-edited by Sidney Berger, UC Riverside,
and Phillip Bevis. Institutions interested in hosting the exhibition should
contact the address below for details.

"I would like to thank my fellow jury members and all participants for their
efforts. Jury members include:

Kenneth Carpenter, Harvard Alice Schreyer, Chicago
Alan Horne, Toronto Samuel Streit, Brown
Sally Leach, Texas David Zeidberg, UCLA

"Special thanks is due to the Brown University Library and its staff for
their courtesy in hosting the jury deliberations."
