Is anyone else struggling with how to respond to the recent ruling
by the Department of Education that theses (graduate and undergraduate)
are educational records subject to privacy laws? Recent articles in "The
Academic Archivist" (July 1993) and in the (Raleigh) News and Observer
(August 21) have left many of us in special collections aghast at the
possibilities of restricted access for researchers and unsure of what to
do.
