PROD-U, brought to you by
ACRL/ALA's Rare Books and Manuscripts Section
At the first meeting of the newly constituted Education and
Professional Development Committee of the Rare Books and
Manuscripts Section [RBMS], the membership recognized a need to
disseminate information about conferences, workshops, symposia, and
other organized programs that would further the educational and
professional development of RBMS members. The committee agreed to
serve as a clearinghouse for such notices as might come to their
attention, and to post electronically those that were deemed
relevant.
EXLIBRIS seemed a natural choice as the best vehicle for these
postings. Its subscribers include many of RBMS's members, and the
scope of EXLIBRIS is consistent with the content of such
announcements. As EXLIBRIS coordinator, Peter Graham has been
especially supportive of our undertaking. Consequently, we
initiate this service with the hope that the postings prove useful
to RBMS members and EXLIBRIS subscribers alike.
We also encourage everyone to submit notices that come to
their attention to the PROD-U moderator (see address below) or to
other members of the Education and Professional Development
Committee. While we cannot assure the accuracy of postings that we
place on EXLIBRIS, notices will always indicate how more
information can be had, and interested readers can make further
contacts directly.
All postings will carry the message PROD-U, an acronym
intended both as descriptive [PROfessional Development] and
exhortative. For those of you with systems that allow subject
display, that banner will serve as preface about the sort of
message forthcoming. If you don't want to be prodded, delete
freely!
