Re: Novels in woodcuts



  There was an article concerning Masereel and his works in the JOURNAL
OF MODERN LITERATURE sometime in 1978 or 1979, if my memory serves me well.
In fact, that issue had One of Masereel's woodcuts on the cover (a self-
portrait, I believe).  I think the article also dealt considerably with
the genre itself.  Dover reprinted at least one of Masereel's novels under
the title MEIN STUNDENBUCH.  There is also a very large coffeetable book
on Masereel, published in Belgium, which also has his many paintings,
although he is certainly best known for his Blockbooks.  I hope this is
of some help.
