(Apologies if this topic has come up in the all-too-recent past...)
Does anyone have any information or practical experience concerning the scan-
ing of rare books (particularly those printed before 1800). The final images
would be available in a CD-rom format. I am particularly interested in the
following aspects:
1. The actual process of scanning, including potential conservation problems.
2. The intermediate stages from initial scanning to the final product in the
CD-rom format.
3. Names and addresses of manufacturers of scanning equipment or vendors who
will do the scanning and processing. Other relevant addresses.
4. Estimated costs (??): scanning, processing, end product.
Any information would be gratefully appreciated.
