Re: [AMIA-L] Zimbabwe Footage
Ishumael -- Very good to hear from you and I'm sure all on the AMIA list
wish you well.
I've checked BBC TV/film holdings and really we start post 1945. We
have some interesting footage from the 1950s, but not earlier. We have
5 radio archive items from 1934 to 1940. I'll happily send full details
if you wish, or you can now access the BBC catalogue (but not the
content) online: http://open.bbc.co.uk/catalogue/infax/ (though at
present this has limited search functionality)
In the UK, a major source of film footage pre 1940 would be cinema
newsreels. The Br University Film and Video Council has collected data
on a great deal of that material, available on their website:
http://www.bufvc.ac.uk/databases/newsreels/index.html
Our 6 early radio items (all very pro-empire!):
1. RHODESIAN BOYS ARE HAPPY 28/08/1940
2. REINFORCEMENTS FOR ARMY OF MIDDLE EAST 30/04/1940
3. EMPIRE'S HOMAGE 12/05/1937
4. THE EMPIRE'S TRIBUTE 06/05/1935
5. EMPIRE EXCHANGE 25SX0776 25/12/1934
Regards, Richard
